We are learning to bless Yahweh when we pray. There are many blessings in the observances of Shabbat and other Appointed Feasts and times that incorporate these blessings of Yahweh. We have always thanked him, and blessing him as thanks is a new perspective for us. Since we began observing and celebrating Shabbat, we have been blessing Yahweh for the food instead of blessing the food itself.

Matt is learning to bless our children each Shabbat also. Since he started doing this some months ago, I notice “the blessing” each time I read or see one of the fathers in the Scriptures give their blessing to their children. I think it will make an interesting study.

We taught our children Ephesians 6:1-3 years ago, and have done it again with our current Littles. Today, as I was praying and blessing Yahveh for keeping and protecting our family, it dawned on me to teach this to our children:

“Blessed are you, Yahveh, Our Elohim[God], King of the Universe, who sanctifies us by your commandments. Blessed are you who commands us, as children, to honour and obey our Father and Mother because you love us and they do too, that our lives may be long and we may be blessed of you.”

If you do this – bless Yahveh particularly, not thanking him for it, but blessing him, tell me your journey and if/how you bless your children and Yahveh for other things and times.

It has been this past year that we started doing this. First, we were convicted to bless Yhvh instead of the food. Then we began to realize the power of the tongue ~ to bless or curse. And we started speaking blessings over the children and each other. Luke prays a blessing over me after my monthly mikvah and he read about doing that from Carl and Julie Parker at Sheepfold Gleanings. They are who we probably first heard about blessing Yhvh as we read their portions regularly. I just love how Yah is moving His people!

We started Blessing Yahweh for our meals also, as well as the above blessing, I still am so moved by my husband speaking blessings over me and our daughter. More recently we were shown to bless Him after meals – as in Deut. In doing so, this has changed our view of a family meal more…. it is a more spiritual doing. :)
