Hello! I have just recently come across your blogs as well as your daughters! All within a day! I have been working on a website now for about six months as well as trying to finish up a children’s book for young ladies on the subject of purity. (Website isn’t up yet because I still need to finish my book!)
However, I have been debating whether or not I wanted to use a pen name and not post any pictures or anything because I’m quite internet shy and I have questioned the wisdom of exposing who we are on the internet with so many “crazies” out there! I have to say, though that your blogs as well as other Christian blogs are beginning to foster a bit of courage in me.
After all, seeing pics and reading about who you really are lends authenticity.
Without those personal elements, it just doesn’t seem the same! It really is a step of faith to put yourselves out there in cyberspace! Since fear is the opposite of faith, I will have to prayerfully reconsider whether or not I am being motivated by practicing wisdom or being motivated by fear!
May God bless you and your family!
In Christ,
Michelle

Hi, Mrs. Dixon! Could you tell me what the condition of your VF CDs are? For example, are they still sealed or just in good condition?
Thank you!

I’m sorry those are still on there. I need to remove some pages. Mr. Dixon took all the books and cd’s we had left to a consignment store last week.
Sorry~

Well, it looks like I was a little too late!
Thank you anyway!
Blessings,
Rebekah
P.S. If you ever have anymore VF CDs and such to sell, let me know!

Shalom Dixon Family,
Thru a friend of mine, on FB, I found your other blog and now this one. Wow. My hats off to you sister! Have totally fallen in love with your ministry. I submitted your TDTW blog to our directory, it will be listed under blogs. I also believe this one should be listed for others to glean from too. You produce much, and have much for other women and families to be so blessed by! Thank you for pouring out your heart/life for so many. Abba bless you abundantly in all you and your family need.
Shalom,
Donna Smith

What math do you use with your children?
God Bless!

Hi Joycelyn!
Mainly, for beginner math, we use the kitchen, money, objects and flash cards. That goes for all the beginner concepts of counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc… we use clocks on the wall and actual time – appts, etc. – for teaching time.
We used to use A Beka, and I do like it for up until about 7th-8th grade. When we got to Algebra I, I thought it was a big time-waster, as we spent 4 weeks on graphs, and that was just the beginning of the book. I sold that one asap. It wasn’t good for the teacher or either of the 2 students!
I then switched to Saxon, but they only had to do the odds or evens as long as they understood the concept.
I do like the A Beka 7th gr. Basic Mathematics for above basics, older math skills.
[You may be wondering why I am not just giving you one answer of what we are using...]
I honestly believe that there is no set type of curriculum for every child, and we use what fits the child’s learning. Some great programs don’t work well for all, and some cheap, basic curriculum are just what some students need.
That said, we have the A Beka Basic Mathematics, and Saxon Math for the older children. I am using some [very] old leftover worksheets from A Beka for K, 1, 2, 3 for my younger children right now.
I did review Kumon math, and I would only recommend those as a supplement. There is not the teaching as there is on a regular worksheet. However, if your child needs some extra problems to work on, something like that might work.
I have also seen the Developmental Math books. They come in separate books according to different concepts and are good to get a student grounded in specific concepts.
Most of our school books are packed, and I honestly cannot remember what I kept and what I had to get rid of! I kept as much as I could keep that I knew I would need for the several ages we have!
You have inspired me!
I am also going to be using some worksheets from online sites. I need to check into that, because I have found them before, but haven’t looked in some time. I also usually check into http://donnayoung.org too, for worksheets and such, too.
I will be setting up affiliate links to some of my fave math products in the Store as soon as I can too!!
Shalom friend!

Joycelyn, Oh, how I wished these were published books I had written!!!!
We could REALLLLY use the income about now!!!
But, alas, they are just 2 of our family blogs, and as Rachel said when she read your comment, ones that badly need to be updated!!
So, the bad news is, they are not books, the good news is that they are free and online for you to use.
