Titus 2 Considerations Aside

Oh that we would be discerning and wise in our statements and our endorsements.
Disclaimer: I am writing this post for myself, my children and my friends on my blog as an expression of why I think as I do about this subject. It is not written to slam anyone. If you feel anger or conviction at it, ask God why. This is my conviction. I am also not speaking of every person who backs Senator Palin as a good choice for VP. My good friend Sprittibee thinks Palin is awesome, and that is not a point of contention in our relationship. I love her, and I have not heard a mean word against another Believer from her. She has her own opinion, and that is that. If you choose to comment, it may or may not be published, edited or deleted. This post is not meant to debate with anyone, and you will not sway my opinon, so please do not try to.
Who Is Throwing What?
I have to chuckle (at the risk of wanting to throw my laptop otherwise!) at certain Bible-believing Christians who have referred to those Bible-believing Christians who are trying to be discerning themselves and applying a loving heart and Scriptural mind to the nomination of Sarah Palin as “aligning themselves with Liberal Socialists“. I mean, really, is that not what Sarah Palin herself did when she became a “Feminist for Life”? Are Christians really called to be feminists? (Did you even know she considers herself a feminist?)
If one looks closely at many who are “not name-calling and stone-casting at Sarah Palin”, we will see that, instead, they have decided to name-call and stone-throw at other Christian women, many homeschool moms like themselves, training their children up in the love and admonition of the Lord (like myself and many of my friends) who disagree with the nomination. I was unaware that it was “who” you threw stones at that mattered.
A Careful Consideration
I am content to admit that I am not happy with John McCain’s choice of a mother of 5 children, one going off to war, one pregnant and unwed, two other Littles and an infant who has special needs, to the Republican ticket. As a mother to 8 children, 5 of them ages 11 and under, I am not afraid to say I expect Christian Moms to desire to be at home with their children. Then again, after finding out Mr. and Mrs. McCain are only partially Pro-Life and do not want to overturn Roe v. Wade, there is so much to be disappointed about…
Do I think she is a bad mom? No I don’t, and even if I did, I would not blog about it.
Do I think she doesn’t love her children? No, I think she does love them.
Do I think she cares that I feel this way? Not likely.
Do I have the right to consider this when I consider how I feel about casting my vote for this candidate? Yes I do. I have received emails from the Sarah Palin and the John McCain asking me for my vote. I have the right and the obligation as an American citizen to look at all things I apply to the Word that is reflected in their beliefs, no matter the sex of the candidate or the position they are running for. Sarah Palin is not above that because she gives a good speech or sells a jet on Ebay or kicks the good ‘ol boys outta her town’s government. Also not of consideration is whether this knowledge is liked by other Believers or not.
And, I will say something else: If you are FOR her as a candidate, then you considered your conscience and your beliefs and you also judged accordingly. That’s fine with me. Just don’t crucify those of us who are also applying our beliefs (judging) to a woman who has professed to be a part of the body of Christ and coming out of it on the other side of the discussion.
Luke 12:48
“…For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”
I would say the office and spotlight of being in this position, especially as a Believer is, in this world, MUCH. Sarah Palin has made A PUBLIC profession of being a part of the Church, the Body, the Bride of Christ. Many Christian young ladies are watching her, and many have their eyes glazed over with the aspirations of being “just like Sarah Palin”. This is a very grand thought in light of God’s Word. I would be careful writing such harsh words about Believers who stand on principle on the other side of this issue. Read the entire chapter of Luke 12, and pay particular attention to the parable this verse speaks to.
Ephesians 5
15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
I certainly think that as we are voting for and appointing leaders for the greatest nation on Earth, we must give ourselves to the discernment of the Lord and His WORD. “17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” Do I have the right to judge what the will of the LORD is for the Palin family? Nope. I don’t profess to. But, when a candidate puts him or herself in the light of an office that will direct the thoughts and ideals of the nation I live in, then it is my right and my duty to consider her.
In all honesty, I have read enough posts and comments, and I believe that because of the fear in the hearts and minds of many of God’s own people, Believers, that Barack Hussein Obama may be our next President, Sarah Palin was almost like a Saviour to many. To me, that is a scary thought. Christians looking for a Saviour. GOD alone will give this Presidency to whom He gives it to. If He chooses to destroy our country or its government before the election, He can do that too, and then perhaps neither will be President. It is GOD’S to ordain.
CASTING STONES
This is not about sin. This is about the fact that I don’t want to cast a vote for her to be in the White House. I don’t want to put forth a vote for a woman, because of my beliefs. Is this belief more important than the murder of unborn children? NO. Is it still an important belief to me? Yes.
I do not care if other Believers share that area of my faith. As I stated, these are my convictions. I am presenting my reasons for not wanting her on the ballot, not in regards to whether she is in sin or not. If I were a non-Believer with these views, no one would even bring up the “casting the first stone” story. This is about casting a ballot, not casting stones.
WOMEN BIBLE HEROES
I have heard comparisons of Deborah, Queen Esther and the Proverbs 31 Woman applied to Mrs. Palin. *sighs* I suppose, taken out of context, any Biblical story can be made to fit life today as we want it to be, but many times, it just isn’t a correct fit.
As far as Esther: She was a Queen in name. Her place was for the King’s pleasure. If you have studied this particular King, you will find he was a pretty nasty guy. She was not even given the status of being allowed into his presence unless it was arranged prior to her entrance. She could have been killed, because she really was not a “ruler”. God did place her there for that time and preservation of His People, but not to rule the people. There is mention of her making a decree of the celebration of Purim for her people, the Jews, but not that she RULED the country or the people. Book of Esther
Distinction Between the Sexes
In an age where the roles of men and women are blurred so much that there is often no difference between them, Bible Believers must stand up for God’s plan for men and women. Going back to Genesis and all through the Old and New Testaments, there is a definite distinction between the sexes and Godly roles for each. His design for each is different and perfect, and we must uphold the standards He has set as each.
I was not raised in a Titus 2 home, and frankly, I did not even have a clue about the Titus 2 Women until about 5 years ago, fifteen years into my marriage. I am still working on the feminist tendencies I have being raised in a non-Christian home, and I have a lot of application to still work on. Oh that I had understood when I was a young woman how and why God designed us as women differently and gave us such a strong, important, yet different role in the family and society than our male counterparts.
In This World…
We are to be in this world but not of it. Period. This goes for our habits, our hearts, our jobs, our families, our towns, our government, and any other place or circumstance we can apply it to. Have we arrived at this point in our household? Of course not. We never will. God is too full, and we are too human. No one will ever achieve this perfection until we are with the Lord. It doesn’t mean we can just let it all go and let the world overrun us, though, either.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Don’t become satan’s dinner.
In Her Own Words
I will end this with Sarah Palin’s own words from an interview tonight with Charlie Gibson. This part is when he asked of Mrs. Palin, “Can you look the country in the eye and say ‘I have the experience and I have the ability to be not just vice president, but perhaps president of the United States of America?’” and her answer was, “I do, Charlie, and on January 20, when John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, will be ready. I’m ready.”
GIBSON: And you didn’t say to yourself, “Am I experienced enough? Am I ready? Do I know enough about international affairs? Do I — will I feel comfortable enough on the national stage to do this?”
PALIN: I didn’t hesitate, no.
GIBSON: Didn’t that take some hubris?
PALIN: I — I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can’t blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we’re on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can’t blink.
So I didn’t blink then even when asked to run as his running mate.”
As a Mother, I agree with that analysis of not blinking. I agree that you have to be so committed to the mission. The only difference in that statement from Sarah Palin and myself is the definition of the Mission.
Mine is a Mission of Motherhood, and hers is a Mission for the reform of the country.
On a mission, you CANNOT divide your attentions. She, in her own words, defined the mission she is “so committed” to.

Well written Jacque. I believe that whatever God allows out of this election is going to be a portion of our end times. I sense that were are nearing the end time and that it is right at the door. Matthew 24:33
I believe that no matter who we vote for, God is going to give this nation one of two things. He will either give us what we need or what we deserve. America’s track record does not indicate, to me, that He will give us what we ‘need’.
The American people and it’s government have rejected God and is working diligently to remove our faith from our nation and from it’s heritage. When I read about nations like ours, in the Old Testament, their outcome was bleak, to say the least.
If we read Matthew 24, we find that Jesus tells us that in the end times, life was going on as usual, as in the time of Noah. People will cease to watch for the coming of the Lord. He uses the parable of the fig tree. When it’s branches are tender and it’s leaves begin to show, then we know the time is near.
As I see some Christians growing in their faith and belief in the family as it was originally designed, families coming back to the original design, that to me is that tender branch.
I could be wrong, no doubt, I am not a Bible Scholar. Yet I see some men who are getting back to what they should be doing, and women being at home. They are rearing their own kids teaching the Bible, as it was always meant to be. This movement of Christians is just beginning to really put forth their ‘leaves’. We are a tender group budding forth.
I am very concerned about Christians who continue to walk in the ways of the world. Not only have they allowed themselves to be indoctrinated with the World’s philosophies, but they are continuing in them. Making excuses for their corrupt thoughts and lifestyle. I am not perfect by any means and have much to work on in my own life, but the direction our country is headed is terrifying.
As Christians we should be stopping in our tracks. We need to re-evaluate our lives and how we’re raising our next generation. Christianity is broken in America today. We need to put down our pride, examine ourselves before the Lord. Use the Bible as our guide. Not allow the world’s way to infiltrate and corrupt our thinking. Get back to the original design of the family, the church ,and the government.
These are the three institutions that God ordained for us. These three institutions are supposed to bring Glory to God. These three institutions are broken.
Before there was a government, and a church, there was a family. Get the families back to where they are supposed to be, and I believe we will then see the church begin to heal, and prayerfully the government will follow. Yet, even if the government doesn’t follow, at least the family and the church can be restored.

Wonderfully and beautifully presented…. you may just make Mrs. Palin nervous.

OH my goodness yes! Bravo! I could not agree with you more. She needs to be “not blinking” in her motherhood, I think. I thought that when I saw that interview… did she blink when her teen daughter had enough time to become an unwed mother??? I am not condemning her. My children are human too. I am just saying that she needs to focus all that passion and dedication to the right playing field. Her children probably will (actually definitely will… as will mine) make mistakes, but she needs to be THERE to immediately intervene in those situations! Talk about the potential for BLINDSPOTS!!!!!
I think she has fallen prey to the church’s softness in this area and it’s outright embracing of feministic LIES. I am sad for her, b/c I can tell she is a woman of integrity and loyalty. I have misplaced my vision in the past (in other areas, but STILL) and I think that she could be all that God created her to be without missing a thing of value!!!!
Know what I mean???

My dear Jocelyn, I do not intend to make Mrs. Palin nervous. If she were to find time to read this post, I would certainly hope that she listens to God in this, and what will tug on her heart if she allows it to.
Christina-
I had not thought about our discussions about blind spots, and I know every person has them, but you are so right. It is so very easy, though, to have blind spots, when your mission is not about seeing those blind spots.
You know, I have read how “she will have cooks and nannies and maids”… blah blah blah… I need to see my children’s hearts and attitudes, not rely on someone else to tell me about them – even my husband!!! As the mother, I NEED to see this.
Does Mrs. Palin really believe that she will make a greater difference in this country than she can in her children’s hearts and lives? And, if she does, then that shows her ability and confidence to be a good leader or not.
ANYONE can be VP. Only Sarah Palin can be the mom of her own children. Believe me… her children are probably so very proud of her, but they know that too.

You make many good points and I don’t totally disagree with you. It is not God’s best for a women to be in a political office. However, I don’t think wrong to have a women in a political office. We have the example in scripture of Deborah and how men would not lead as they should. She was made a judge and assisted in the military of her day. Do we make a doctrine / law out of this? Probably not. But when men don’t lead as they should, I believe it is possible for God to use women in this role.
Faced with the opposition, I don’t believe I have any other choice on who to cast my vote for.

Jacque,
This is very insightful and well-thought out. You put words to the feelings I have had since hearing about Sarah Palin’s nomination.
As a mamma to six children and a small-business owner, I have no hesitation in putting my husband and children first. I have blogged about that in the past. If I am in “in balance” with my time with the Lord and my family, then I need to re-evaluate and get things back as they should be.
So, I will still prayerfully consider who gets my vote in November.
Have a blessed day! Tami

HappyMom, I addressed the whole issue of Deborah by linking it to Jocelyn’s post.
I don’t mean to be rude, but I am at the end of my rope with using stories of God’s people when they were being sinful to justify our actions as Believers.
Israel was in sin. There are other men who can and would lead in the office of VP. Mrs. Palin jumped at the chance because her focus is not as Deborah’s was and in doing His will, but, rather, in doing the will of the people.
Please take time to read the post on Deborah.
Thank you for your comment and welcome to my blog!

Thank you Tami for stopping by and letting me know that there is support in this line of thinking. I believe Christians need to realize we Christian women – moms – aren’t all ga-ga at the Palin for VP choice.

Well done. The first time I heard about Palin, I wondered about her children, and thought that I was just being lame about the whole matter. But, I was still uncomfortable. Then, I was certain that I needed to support her because, after all, I did NOT want to, by default, send my support to the other guy. And, slowly…..slowly…..I am realizing that this whole thinking process of mine is based solely on FEAR, and…..guess what…..the Lord tells me to FEAR NOT. Therefore, my decision at this point is to find a third party to write in, or not to vote.
Please don’t fall off the end of your rope! I think all of these thinking strands are common and need to be slushed through on an individual basis. I thank you for writing your thoughts on this matter and send to you the Lord’s blessings from our home.
Blessings,
Kerimae

I have thought, prayed, read and watched many things recently concerning Palin’s acceptance as VP Candidate. I am rather tired of it all! I am not one to debate which I know that wasn’t your stand or desire here. The other night some friends took us out to dinner and I was completely “shut up” by a man who indeed would not even let me speak a word against Palin’s /McCain’s decision. I was a bit hurt for his arrogance and rudeness but I soon realized it was ignorance. That understanding on my part turned into sorrow which then turned into huge frustration! I am so SICK AND TIRED of God’s people saying whatever they THINK! Or whatever they HEARD a preacher/evangelist…whoever say “once upon a time” and you know my husband is a preacher so don’t think I’m cutting down preachers! Today at church our pastor brought up the same fact of how it sickens him that so-called MEN/Women of God stand in a pulpit or pew (whichever fits) and they speak from their own understanding….never searching the scripture let alone the heart of God. I am worn and tired of it all. By voting day the Lord will have to take me down to the polls as I pray each day until then. Father give us wisdom. Thank you for your heart of wisdom sis…I love ya & I miss ya

I’m so glad I came across your blog. This topic has been on my mind since before Palin’s nomination. I really like Sarah Palin and have no doubt she could do the job. I just don’t feel comfortable with the idea of a woman in such a position. As I feel a lot less ‘comfortable’ with the idea of Obama as President, I will continue to pray ‘Thy will be done’ and thank God that He is in control.
Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

When I heard that on a whim,John Mcain chose Govenor Palin as his running mate I said to my huband”He must not want to be president.” Because I know God’s Word,I know the woman”s place is in the home and that means educated or not. How confused Govenor Palins daughters must be. I think that baby was a gift from God to see which way she would choose and I guess we know.

Ok at least I know I am not the only one going to have a very late comment to this post but AMEN, I had my reservations about her and mainly in the why is she not home raising her kids…. Great she can lead her state effectively but what about them…. Another thought came to pass was that quite possibly the republican side was using her because she was female to attract female voters in a way like women were flocking for Hillary to be the next president… Regardless we are with the government headship as it is intended to be I may not totally understand GODs ways but who am I to question HIS authority….right… For all things are due a season,, and I too agree with some of the other commenters here…. as I myself since this election have really taken a serious look at my role as wife, and mom and protector of my family…. Who needs a guard dog when wife/mom is home ha ha ha
