Walking Therein

I have a great praise to the Lord today. July 10th was the 20th year anniversary of my accepting Jesus as my Saviour, and today, I got to lead a Little One to the Lord.

I have been praying and asking the Lord how and what to do with Hannah lately, because she has had quite an attitude, and I hate being on her and correcting her all the time. I just knew there was something I needed to address, and God showed me today.

Psalm 98:2

The LORD hath made known his salvation:
his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.

God spoke to my heart today and asked me if Hannah had accepted Jesus as her Saviour. It is something I had not really thought of, because we read the Word and pray every night as a family before bedtime, and talk all day long about the Lord and His Promises and His laws as the occasion arises. And, I thought, “Hmmm… Has she accepted Jesus as her Saviour?”. We have watched The Passion, read about Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, and I know she knows about heaven and hell and what sin is. But…. had she accepted Christ as her Saviour?

So, we went to the stairway and closed the door to have a little talk. I asked her if she indeed did know about all the things I just mentioned, and she knew of them and explained them to me, and so I asked her if she had accepted Jesus as her Saviour into her heart and actually *asked him* to forgive her of her sins. She said no. (How did I miss this?) So, we had quite a lovely talk about the Lord and the Holy Spirit and how we must confess our sins, and how He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins.

Psalm 116:13

I will take the cup of salvation,
and call upon the name of the LORD.

We talked about how sin separates us from a Holy God, and that is to be expected since our sin is putrid to Him and we are like smelly garbage and He is so perfect and lovely, and that He was, at the time of His sacrifice on the cross, ugly and dirty and smelly and that was when He took our sins upon Himself and became sin for us so that we could be forgiven. We talked about the fact that she and I were gathered in His name, and there He was in the midst of us, so she had no need to fear talking to Him, because He will always be there for her, and she should never fear confessing her sins to Him, but should always do so immediately when she is convicted, so that she is clean and can go on and not walk in sin.

She prayed and asked Jesus into her heart to be her Saviour and forgive her of her sins. We talked about how important it is to confess our sins. How really important it is. That we still sin each day, and even though we are saved and forgiven, we must still ask forgiveness for those sins so that we are spotless before God. We talked about hell and the man with the full barns whose life was required of him that very day and Abraham’s Bosom, and how the Jewish people used to give sacrifice for their sins, but now Jesus is the final sacrifice and has bridged that gap. We talked about when the man asked that Abraham send someone back to warn his brothers that hell is real, and we already have the warnings and the reality of a Creator and Savior, but that hell is very real, and somewhere that no man truly desires to go. (To which she agreed.)

Psalm 119:174

I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD;
and thy law is my delight.

Hannah asked Jesus to forgive her of the sins she could think of and to convict her and remind her of the ones she could not presently, and we had a little laugh and a hug. I reminded her of the rejoicing of the angels when Jesus was born, and I told her that they angels were rejoicing that she was now saved. Her name is now written in the Lamb’s Book of Life!

I then told her that she now had the toughest part ahead of her in her walk, and that was to walk with other Believers and to turn from her sinful habits. I said that the enemy, satan, would now try to come to her and dissuade her from doing the right things when she was convicted. That she can stand up to him in Jesus’ name and tell him to go, and she got a laugh when I flicked my shoulder and told her that he would try to whisper to her, that she was to flick him away and say, “Go from me, in the name of Jesus,” and he would go. I talked to her about asking me and her sisters and her Daddy and brothers for prayer when she was struggling, and we would pray with her and it was ok to ask and to not be embarrassed, because we want to pray with her.

We talked about how important it is to have the Word in our hearts from the time we wake up to the time we go to bed, and that the Word is one way God teaches us and we grow in him and away from our flesh/sin. I said it is her responsibility to read the Word when she wakes up and when she goes to bed, and it is so very important to her good habits as a Believer.

What an honor and a privilege to walk my daughter before God’s throne as a new Believer! Thank you Lord for this honor! I am rejoicing and praising the Lord even now!

Jocelyn is currently designing Hannah a blog she has been asking for over and over. She came up with a name and was adamant about it from day one. It is about being in the arms of grace. Last month, on vacation, I asked her why. She said it was because of Amazing Grace. We love this song; we sing it all the time. I understand her love of it. Also, her name, Hannah, means grace. And her middle name is Grace. When I realized that, when she was quite little, I always used to call her “full of Grace”, because her name gave her a double portion.

Today, exactly 20 years and 1 day after I accepted Jesus as my Saviour, I think it only appropriate to thank Him and praise Him for His salvation and grace. Grace that truly is amazing. He takes a sin-sick, disgusting soul and returns it to us as something Holy and worthy. It is truly a miracle. I sang Amazing Grace to Caleb tonight (again). It ’tis his most favorite song! And he, at 3, knows all the words. I just stared at him, singing, half asleep. I thanked God for Caleb. I thanked God that He has washed me and given me my salvation, and now it has been passed to my children. A way for them to be His. I did not think 20 years ago that I would one day be praising God that my children were accepting Him as their Saviour. I was so new to the understanding. but, OH! What a blessing! What a blessing He has given my heart.

I am sure I have posted Amazing Grace before as my Saturday Psalm & Praise, but I have to post it again!
