What A Beautiful Sight!
Posted By Jacque on December 28, 2008
I woke up to a beautiful sight of my children learning to knit and crochet with Grandma this morning. All the girls and Eric were trying their hands at it. What a sight to touch my Momma’s heart!
they had gotten online and looked up stitch examples an videos showing how to knit and crochet. My mother said she remembers her Grandmother teaching her and her cousins how to knit when they were little. God is so good to give us these small things.
Rachel was so happy that she finally knows how to knit and crochet.
She has wanted to know for some time now, and Grandma even got her a knitting and crochet set with a book for her birthday last month. I suppose she just needed that little extra push to be shown how.
Even Eric tried his hand at it and is determined to make himself a scarf or something. I am looking forward to letting him go to town next time and pick out some yarn with him for it.
Isaac followed along with what everyone was doing and tried it, but, at 5, he is a little too young yet!
I know this time will strengthen our family to be faithful to Him and love Him more each day as a family. I am so excited at the fun we all are going to have with it! Gotta love homeschooling!
Matt worked for a bit, but has the rest of the day off. I am so glad for a holiday for him. We only get him home one day a week usually, so it is a treat when he is home! We opened some small gifts from Mom, and that was fun watching the Littles each try on their new hats and mittens. She got Lucy a leopard hat with a brim and mittens. We couldn’t resist taking several photos of her!
Mom is working at a salon in town, and she got me a set of natural shampoo/conditioner and gel, which all smell like grapefruit. Love grapefruit.
She gave Matt some handkerchiefs, which he can surely use since he walks out in the weather all day! I am going to see if Rachel wants to learn to embroider an initial on them for him. Or perhaps each of the girls would like to!
Afterward we watched the new Pilgrim’s Progress: Journey to Heaven. It is really good. We have enjoyed watching the older version with Liam Neeson in it. Some parts are a little scary (in either of them) for the Littles – Isaac, 5 and Caleb, 3, but we are talking it through with them and having them look away if they are scared. We are trying to be discerning between allowing them to understand evil and Bible realities and keeping their innocence without fear.
Ms. Charlene’s post, Angels and Demons, make a big impression on me. That in conjunction with the VOTM article about how evil is not mentioned much in the world or even churches today and how we NEED to have our children know there is evil and how to live staying away from it. Not to fear it, but to know it and run from it – defeat it.
I would encourage homeschooling families to sign up for this FREE resource and read and teach from it to your children. Open their eyes to the reality of life in other Believer’s lives. Open their eyes to the blessings in our own lives, the real persecution in other countries. They will learn about Believers who are thankful to have food at all and Believers who die for their faith because being a Christian is against the law and punishable by brutal beatings and/or death. It will give them a compassion and a love for others and a desire to serve the LORD and others.
I hope you all have peace in your homes today and much time with family!!
I also moved up a post on Growing in Grace Magazine for today: Soldier of Virtue by Miss Jess.
Blessings to you all! I hope you had a great day today!

How cute are those pictures! I remember the times my mama taught me how to crochet growing up. We had to help her make crochet patches for a crochet blanket (queen size) and my mom payed us 25 cents for each one! It was a BLAST! Now I’m going back to my crocheting roots for Needles for the Needy (will make a post about that soon).
Aw, I’m glad you read my blog about that one. I had a struggle with myself about whether I would post it or not. Growing up, people didn’t take too kindly to that when I told them. I ended up not telling anyone as I got older but it’s such a big thing spirtually and it doesn’t make sense not to share! Those things are a scary sight but it’s also a blessing because then we just know with such certainity that these things exist out there and everywhere.

I bought a year or so ago a learn to knit kit from Michaels I think..I have yet to open it! Maybe this winter I will do it (I said that last year too, lol).
Yeh for Matt getting an extra day off! I know when Bob worked 2 jobs all he wanted to do was sleep on his day off (which was only 1 day a week). I’am sooo glad he quit the 2nd job! The extra money was nice, but………….
Blessings,
Beth

Love the image in front of the laptop–learning a centuries old heirloom skill with a combination of grandma’s wisdom and one of the ultimate 21st century tools.

That is so nice. My mom taught me how to crochet and now I make `Prayer Blankets` to give away.
The Leopard hat is adorable.
YES, Gotta Love Homeschooling!!
`D` is so sick with the flu. I told him I am so glad he was at home when the awful fever struck him. Instead of having to wait at school til I could get him.
