O Taste and See That the LORD is Good

Posted By Jacque on November 22, 2008

Saturday Psalm & PraiseThis is such an excellent Psalm. The LORD is so good. He just is. I miss that a lot of times. The enemy has us so hungry for other things sometimes that we forget where our real source is. I have no problem scouring the pantry or refrigerator when I am hungry, but I hardly ever think of the verse that says,

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalm 34:8

Taste and see. I do not know the original Hebrew of that, but when we consider spiritual food, we can taste and see His goodness. We *do* have a hole in our souls. Our spirits *do* hunger and thirst after righteousness. But, as with all things, the enemy of our souls perverts that and turns our desires and our hearts to other things… any things. Any things but God.

We are not to turn to anything else. And the world has so much to offer: relationships, sports, books, movies, crafts, hobbies, higher education, esteem, man’s opinions, and the list goes on. These things are not bad in and of themselves, but these are the things that, out of order in our hearts, can be a detriment to our lives and not allow us to taste and see that the LORD is good.We can’t set a right example for our children if these things are out of line with God in our hearts.

When we make time to taste and see that the LORD is good, the second half of that verse follows:

blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.

Filling that hunger in our flesh or in our spirits with God is a way we trust in him. By denying the desires to put other things ahead of God and filling up on worthless things, we are trusting in His provision and His plan. We will be blessed. I want to be blessed. I want to trust in Him. I want to give up on things that keep me busy or take away from my family and from God and taste and see that He is good. I want to be filled up with Him.

I used to pray a lot that my children would be filled with the Holy Spirit. I used to always pray over them at night before I went to bed. I don’t know when I stopped that, but I did it last night, as a response to God’s prompting, and I am going to continue. Thank you LORD for your leading. I prayed that they would be filled with and led by His Spirit. I am going to continue to pray that and believe that and trust God with it. I want them to Taste and see that the LORD is good.

I want to bless the LORD back by trusting Him and giving my desires and my hungers to Him. I want to be filled with Him. He is good. He is.

Psalm 34

1I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. 5They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. 6This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 7The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

8O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. 10The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

11Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? 13Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. 14Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

15The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. 16The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

17The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

20He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. 21Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. 22The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

As I continue to pray that my children are filled with and led by the Holy Spirit, and as we all eat an abundance of wonderful food this Thanksgiving, I am going to remember the words of the Psalmist, O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

May you be blessed also!

Thank you, Jacque, for stopping by and glad to share what God is teaching me. Thank you for the reminder to add the link to you, sorry I forgot that! I put your button on my sidebar as well.

I love physical, visual reminders of God’s goodness. This Psalm will definitely come to mind as I physically taste food as well.

Thank you for sharing that, Jacque!!! I have been reading an awesome book, The Heart of the King, and it has been reaffirming a lot of what you wrote. Having a heart after God like King David did.

I missed getting mine up yesterday, but I think I’ll do a Thanksgiving Psalm and Praise later this week!

Thanks again for sharing, and for your friendship! : )

    Blessings!

Welcome

Hello friends and welcome! The coffee is fresh, the tea is hot, so pull up a comfy chair and sit with me for a bit.
