Saturday Psalm & Praise: Psalm 28

Posted By Jacque on May 31, 2008

Who is like Our God? We sometimes get all caught up in how kind and loving and merciful He is, and we don’t know how to answer such questions as, “How could a loving God allow the murder of unborn babies?” or “If God is love, how could he send anyone to hell?”. But, see, in our limited human minds, we cannot understand the total purity and total justice of God. We do not understand the He is GOD. He is not just a benevolent Creator. He is the God of the Universe.

I don’t think parents are gods, or that their children are like their little creations to be in charge of, but that is a valid analogy when we are speaking of the many ways God is like the parent, and we are His children. And God Himself refers to us as His children. God’s knowledge is above ours in the manner mine is above my children’s. As my older children get older, they have a better understanding, but as children they will never fully know things I do.

It is difficult to understand passages like Psalm 28. To say, God, give those sinners, my enemies, what they deserve is lacking grace and kindness on our parts, but yet, God destroyed nations and gave kings up to reprobate minds, and we wonder how could a loving God be so cruel? Is He cruel? Is sending someone deserved of hell to hell cruel?

Does God not lay out His plan for our lives? Do we as human beings not still deny Him and say, “There is no God?” We do. We as the human race shake our fists and thumb our noses at God and then expect differently. We forget He is the all-powerful, all-knowing, vengeful God who does release His wrath when necessary.

Psalm 28

1Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

2Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.

3Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.

4Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.

5Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.

6Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.

7The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

8The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.

9Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

An honest prayer. The frailty of man’s conscience and lack of self-control: “Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts,” is shown in this verse. Our total reliance on God to not just save us from our sins, but to keep us when we are weak. Weak. We can be weak. We all are weak. The sinner to his sins, the Believer to his old sins, but the temptation is there for all.

Praise the Lord, the One True God who has saved us from our sins and will one day judge all men; some to eternal life, some to eternal fire. For He is a great and terrible God. He does not demand our praise, by He most definitely deserves it!

blessings!

And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

and you are to love YHVH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your understanding, and with all your strength.'
