Voting, Fear, the Bible

Posted By Jacque on October 23, 2008

And the countdown has begun to Election ‘08. How do the Presidential Candidates fair right about now?

There is a lot of buzz going on right now in the media and blog land… who to vote for…

Psalm 40:8

“I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”

I am a bottom line kind of person. I believe that if abortion is murder, then it is. It is in any case. It is not only murder in the case of convenience. It is also murder in the case of saving the mother’s life. Some believe in abortion to save the life of the mother.

My bible tells me that God is the Author of life, and we are to support it. There needs to be no debate about this. Don’t ask me if I can read God’s mind on this, because everyone can. He wrote it down several times in the Bible through Godly men. Anyone’s right to choose anything does not supercede the right to life.

James 1:8, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” – John Quincy Adams

Fear and Prayer

This is about voting your conscience, instead of your fears. Vote out of faith in a God who already knows the outcome.

The other day, I said the Scripture about “men’s hearts failing them for fear” to Amanda, and when I said it, it struck me differently than it ever has. I have always “heard” it as “we will see men have more and frequent heart attacks in the End Times”.  However, when I said it the other day, I “heard” it as, “men’s hearts (their feelings, their conscience) will fail them – fail to give them the Truth, because they are living in fear and cannot “hear” what God and their conscience tells them”.

I think we are seeing men’s consciences fail them, because they are so fearful, instead of walking in faith.
I view voting as anything else in life: I will do what I know is Godly, not evil, and it may or may not make and impact, but I know God will take care of it either way. May I be used for His Glory, and may others see Him through me, even if they don’t recognize it right away!

Is Voting/Politics Biblical?

And, by the way, can you give me  a couple of examples from the Bible, chapter and verse, in context, where it says we are supposed to physically exercise our right to vote? Or support politics in any way? I would be interested in seeing them.

Oh yes, and just as in my last political post: Titus 2 Considerations Aside [or Why I am Not Ga-Ga Over Palin for VP]:

Disclaimer: I am writing this post for myself, my children and my friends on my blog as an expression of why I think as I do about this subject. It is not written to slam anyone. If you feel anger or conviction at it, ask God why. This is my conviction. I am also not speaking of every person who backs any candidate. Just so you know that if you choose to comment, it may or may not be published, edited, deleted, or even read. This post is not meant to debate with anyone, and you will not sway my opinion, so please do not try to. :)

blessings,

Jacque Sig

    Jacque,
Thank you for your post. I totally aggree with you about the whole fear issue. Why are Christians so afraid? I was reading history with my oldest, and we are studying Old History… all the way to about 500 BC. There is alot about the different kings that ruled in that day and about how God allowed the differrent kings (even the corrupt kings) to rule. It is God who is in control! It is God who appoints the king! He calls us to trust Him and to obey Him! I have much to be in prayer about these next 2 weeks! Thank you again and God bless! :)

Great post Jacque! I’ve wanted to get one similar up on my blog too and even have it in the works, but you’ve enunciated so well just about everything I have to say here that I may just link yours! Thanks for sharing!

Wow. Thank you so much Jacque. There is so much good information here. What a lesson that Christians need today…let’s walk by faith, not by sight.

    I would as well.

I’m coming to conclusion that we are to be first and foremost citizens of the Coming Kingdom, and patriotic to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

So we pray for our leaders, our government… but we seek the souls of men for it only when people repent and return to the Lord that true and lasting social change happens.

Very good article Jacque. I wish Pastor’s could stand up and preach more directly about the election. If they did their churches would lose their tax exempt status and would be forced to pay taxes on their tithes and offerings. Yet they can stand up and preach about the Propositions. Doesn’t sound like a free speech country to me.

    Hi Jacque,

I definitely understand what you’re saying. I was really interested in Mick’s post since we JUST moved to Illinois. But I won’t be voting in Illinois this time. I’ll be voting in Missouri by absentee ballot, God willing.

I’m still praying about the whole thing.

As far as what scripture says about voting. There are scriptures that say we are responsible for what kind of judges we put over us. Since our system lets us vote for the President who appoints Supreme Court Judges, we are to vote for the one who would appoint righteous judges. I can’t find the verses right this minute, but if you would watch KCM.org and hear what David Barton and Kenneth Copeland are talking about, the verses are given on Monday’s broadcast, and I think they mentioned it on Tuesday’s show too.

    Hope this helps,
    Penney

Penney, McCain said in an interview the other night that he would not appoint people based solely on their party. He also has said that he doesn’t want the Federal Government to make the decisions about Abortion or Marriage. He wants to leave it up to the states to decide.

I’ve been looking for Scripture that says we’re to be apart of electing kings (or presidents) and haven’t found anywhere. I did find the verse in Daniel where it says God sets up and takes down kings, I have read in the OT where the people wanted a king so God chose one, I have found where it says to pray for your leaders, but I haven’t found where it says we are to chose who rules over us or be a part of the process. Can you please give me the Scripture reference your referring to Ms. Penny?

Thank you for the refreshing comments on my blog. Sometimes it seems that the whole world is against you and that is the way I have been feeling lately! Not only that but I am sometimes treated crazy for knowing the things I do about Bohemian Grove and all that stuff. It is nice to know I am not alone in this knowledge. I have so many DVD’s on that type of subject… I actually never watched most of them because I found myself having the spirit of fear instead of the spirit of God.

I actually believe that the election is rigged but I vote anyhow- just in case. There are just to many coincidences like how the presidents are all related if you climb the family trees and they seem to have lots of doings with organizations like Skull and Bones out of Yale University.

I haven’t told anyone but my husband this but I will tell you. I have three theories about this election but haven’t developed them out enough to choose one that I think will happen yet. Theory 1. If McCain wins Americans and the few Christians contained therein will be SO excited to have him instead of Obama that they will actually be thankful. They won’t see the evil because they will just be thankful it isn’t Obama. It is kind of like gas prices that start out at .99, go up to $4 and then drop to $2.50. We are so thankful that it isn’t $4 that we settle for the $2.50 and think we got a great deal. We forget it could be .99. Theory 2. Obama wins, is thrown out because he can’t be president and the VP becomes president. (I am trying to find out if he has any ties to secret societies or anything like that) Then someone that would never have a chance at presidency is now in office moved there like a pawn. My third theory. The end is almost near and the world is going to undergo changing to the end times with the antichrist. This timing would coinside with the calenders of different origins ending in 2012 which is kind of scary and also coinside with everything becoming so evil in recent years… as in the days of Noah. We can’t know the day or hour but the Bible doesn’t say year. Plus, with the Euro and the fact that we are already under international law, thanks to Clinton and the signing of the “Constitution of Rome”, and the verichip technology
the Biblical prophecies are all lined up and waiting to be fulfilled. I just hope this isn’t it because isn’t there a woe to all those that give suck (nurse) in those days???? I need to look that up.

Signed, babymakers- aka super conspiracy theory Jesus freak! Do you think I am crazy? LOL Hopefully you at least feel special that I shared thoughts that I don’t normally share with anyone!
So there you go. Something I haven’t shared with anyone else except my husband! My true thoughts! LOL No wonder everyone thinks I am crazy!

Very interesting Rachel. NO, I do not think you are crazy. It makes the world a lot smaller to watch all the things that many in the world and the Govt and media know is happening in CA each July and looking the other way. So far, I have been looking at 9/11, the Kennedy Assassination, JFK Jr.s death and several others in reflection of the whole BG thing.

A site I found that has interested me, and that Matt and I are still discussing and praying over is: http://www.meguiar.addr.com/So_who_is_the_House_of_Israel.htm
Matt’s Grandmother, who passed away in January, had much to say about the antichrist and other things. She had an idea of who she thought he was… she knew a lot about those things… such as lineage, etc. I am wondering if she knew this man.
I am very interested in how this site describes the House of Israel.
I believe as you do, that God is still God regardless, and these ARE His children we have. I read about ‘woe to those who give suck in those days’ just yesterday in Luke. I was not sure if it was referring to those who were not Believers and running away… I will have to study it to know for sure.

We have our theories for this election too. Perhaps we should all write them up in a #1,#2,#3 scenario and then, after the first of the year, we can see how it compares.
OOOOOOHHHHH… there are so many things that can play into this. We are pretty much thinking voting probably won’t matter either really. Is the Gov’t rigged? Totally could be.
[are they watching our blogs? Our email? etc.?]They totally could be. The Patriot Act, you know… :P

Many blessings to you for writing this article. Many of your points is why I chose to vote for ——. I believe he will make an excellent president and even if he doesn’t win, I know I voted the way God would want me to vote and not by popularity or fear.. thanks for sharing this.. In Christ.. Lynn

  12. Penney Douglas says:

One verse that we could use as a reason Christians should vote is Ezra 7:25 – And you, Ezra, according to your God-given wisdom, set magistrates and judges who may judge all the people who are in the region beyond the River, all such as know the laws of your God; and teach those who do not know them.

I’ll send more as I find them.

    Love,
    Penney

  13. Jacque says:

Thank you Penny. I found a basis on which to choose or appoint leaders in Exodus 18.
Both this one and the one in Ezra are for the man God put in charge to appoint the leaders though, so I will need to look at your Scripture in context. :)
Thank you, and I very much appreciate it!
    blessings,

Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one!
and you are to love YHVH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your understanding, and with all your strength.' 6 These words, which I am ordering you today, are to be on your heart; 7 and you are to teach them carefully to your children. You are to talk about them when you sit at home, when you are traveling on the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Welcome

Welcome to my online home, Walking Therein. I am a 40-something wife and Momma, trying to walk therein, squeezing in moments of Scripture reading, praise and worship and just quiet between the breastfeeding, child training, cooking, cleaning, child training, laundry, home school, child training, online ministries, and spending individual moments with hubby, adult children, Middles, Littles, and the infant.
Tis the life the Father gave me, and I am blessed to walk in it.
Did I mention the child training?

"Who am I? Nobody special; just a flawed wife and mom, daughter, sister, and friend chosen by YHVH to follow and tell about him."

I am a Believer in the one true God and the Messiah, his Son, whose name is Yehoshua. We keep his commandments because that is what his people do.
"...God's people, those who observe his commands and exercise Yehoshua's faithfulness."
Revelation 12, 14, 22
