Because our family loves history, and because using blogging is an easy way to write and complete home school assignments, we have created a history site of our own: States and Countries Exploration.

If you are interested in joining us or using the assignments in your own home school, you will want to go to the page for more information.

The US History Assignments 2009 will be posted each Monday at this site. I posted the first assignment of our four months of state history assignments yesterday: My State History Assignment 1: Introductions. The assignments will be due on the following Friday to be postedo n personal blogs, more details below.

For this part of our history study, I have signed up Rachel, 15, Eric, 12, and Hannah, 9. They will all be doing research on our state and writing up their posts on their personal blogs. We will be starting out learning about our own state history, and then move on to other history assignments. The great thing about having an open public website like this is that you and your children can also join us if you wish.

Our Littles will certainly also want to get in our IN state history study, but because they are not yet ready to be on the computers – (ok, MOMMY is not yet ready to moderate more children who blog!) – I will be making up photo copies of worksheets and diagrams that they can learn what the others are learning. I have not yet decided if I will put them into a lapbook or go ahead and start a 3-ring binder for them for their assignments.
The US History Assignments will be posted online, and can be tailored to whatever state you choose. Upon completion, the assignments will be posted on individual blogs (or you could use it at home in a notebook or lapbook if you choose to join us in that manner!). Each week a new assignment will be posted for the student to research on their own and post on their blog. They can participate at the States History blog by leaving a link to their posted assignments.

Some “friends” pretend to be friends, but a true friend sticks closer than a brother.

After my last post, SPP: Sorrow into Joy, Frustration to Peace, I have to give praise to the Father for the sweet, faithful girl-friends I do have. I have so many. Starting off with my daughters, who are always here for me and always concerned about me, doing extra-special things for me (and my boys too, actually!) and I am sure, always praying for me! My mother and sister, who, though we don’t get to spend too much time together, are faithful, loving and have my best interest at heart. I am thankful that Adonai has led us to this point in our relationships, and I know it is pleasing to him.

Now, for my IRL and blog friends… I will not list you all, because, honestly, I am horrible with names, which should tell you that I am bound to forget a dear friend, and I don’t want to slight anyone! Suffice it to say that I have friends I have known for the past ten years and friends I have just met who are ‘the best kind of friends”, and I am blessed to have their love, encouragement and friendship.

I just want to tell you that your emails, private messages, blog comments, Tweets – and encouraging comments to my children – are a blessing, and I so appreciate them all.

Pr 17:17
A friend shows his friendship at all times -it is for adversity that [such] a brother is born.

We were blessed yesterday, to have some online-irl friends come by and share a meal with us. After Matt told the Mr. it was Mexican steak, they felt pretty special! It was actually a very good pot of pinto chili beans. Texas chili. I am going to have to get one of them to post the recipe on Training Daughters…. Along with their homemade WW tortillas recipe! We had a very good time of fellowship. It was fun, refreshing, and I was so glad to do it again after we have talked about it for the past two months!

Contest

Anyway, Trisch and her husband have seven sweet girls, and they are having a contest on their blog. There are four ways to win. The prize in their first giveaway is a pretty handmade journal with a hand embroidered design that is appliqued to the front. There are 160pp. Take a look. It’s very pretty. You can see it at Seven Sisters.

I have received Cyndi Rushton’s email newsletter for a long time. I don’t know why I have never participated in her Talk-A-Lattes yet, probably because I just don’t think to make time for them in my schedule. Danielle recently told me that she was organizing Cyndi’s chats on her computer, and I was like “DUH”, why haven’t I gone to any of these? And this light bulb came on just in time for me to participate in her Back To School Blast! How cool is that?

Her Pre View chats have been going on since June, but the big weekend is coming up!
This week I am writing for the Homeschool Blog Awards site. I have compiled a small list of some of the almost 6000 yahoo groups listed under Homeschooling. There is something for everybody. DeEtta left a comment saying that they move often, and online homeschool groups have provided the bulk of support for her.

There are almost 6000 Yahoo Groups under the Homeschooling category. You will find groups for all different formats, ages and sects of homeschooling. Some require membership to view posts and participate, and some are public forums. Once you sign up for membership, you can read through posts, post questions and meet other members who homeschool the same method or age of children you do.

I do not belong to each of these groups so I cannot personally endorse them. These are examples of some that you may be interested in. You can search for a group in your own interests by typing search words into the box on this page.
