We had been making tortillas each day just to make sure there was something ready to eat, and somehow we got out of the habit in the past week. Matt, always happy to grab a tortilla to snack on, asked what happened with that… in other words, “WHERE are the tortillas?!?!?!!?”.

So, now, as I am doing laundry and working on the computer, Rachel is in the kitchen, teaching Matt how to make and roll out tortillas. And they are pretty good, too!!!

Here is our recipe for Homemade Tortillas…, if you are interested:

Homemade Tortillas
PREHEAT: none | COOK: 45 minutes | Yields: 12-15
3 cups of flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup + 1 tbsp. organic palm shortening*
1-1/4 cups warm water

Mix flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Then add the shortening and cut with a pastry cutter until its a fine crumb. Add warm water and mix with a wooden spoon until it is easy to handle. Flour your working surface with flour and knead a little. Then divide dough into 12 balls. (You can make them a little smaller and get 15 balls.) Take a dough ball and pat into a circle, then roll out the dough into the best circle you can. Cook in heated iron skillet for 30 seconds on each side, then put in a pan and stick in the oven on 170. (This will keep your tortillas warm and easier to fold.) Do the same thing with all the rest of the dough.

*I found that using coconut oil instead of regular oil or even palm shortening is the best thing. It makes them easier to fold and makes better tasting tortillas. I use the expeller pressed coconut oil from Tropical Traditions, which doesn’t have that big of a coconut taste to it.

You will find this and many other of our delicious recipes posted on Rachel’s blog, A City On A Hill. Please be sure to read her lovely post on the tortillas. She has such a charming way about her in her writings!

Shalom, and be blessed!

This info is too gruesome not to share. We like soda pop here. I would drink a Dr. Pepper daily if I could. Well, I would have YESTERDAY. – before I read this article…
What Happens To Your Body Within An Hour Of Drinking A Coke

Here is an excerpt:
“When somebody drinks a Coke watch what happens…

In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.

20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)

40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.”

Yes…. wait ’til you read the rest…. the other four points that happen over the next 15 minutes. It’s NOT pretty. Imagine what that means when you drink three or four of these a day?? Or your young children do!?!?!! YIKES!

UGH! It is not worth it. And, did you catch the info about sugar???

And, I also got this little tidbit from a friend: (Oh the things you learn on FaceBook), about Coke:

She said, “I had forgotten about this, but if you didn’t know that Coca Cola uses PESTICIDES in their products and this include their Minute Maid drinks as well. When I called the 1-800 number on the bottle to ask if this was true, the guy seemed stunned and kept asking how did I hear about it and then placed me on hold for a couple of minutes and then said “YES IT’S TRUE, BUT IT HAS BEEN REGULATED BY SOME PROTECTION AGENCY, IT WASN’T THE FDA THOUGH”, and I’m like dude you mean to tell me that when I buy your soda or orange juice, that I’m drinking bug spray and why isn’t there any warning on the bottle???“

And, I was thinking, yes, please tell me, other than you want to kill people off slowly, “Why isn’t there any warning on the bottle???” But, as you well know, there is NO warning on the bottle.

We have also been studying Candida and its effects on the body. It feeds on sugar and processed foods, and that is a main diet in America, isn’t it? While we feed it, it makes us angry, sick, tired, gives us disease, and causes us to not be able to think clearly – and it’s not just a woman’s problem, either. If you or someone you love has been feeling bad and just can’t get it figured out, check out these symptoms of Candida: Candida Symptoms. I will be writing more of my findings in the future.

Ok. Well, you now have the info. You are armed. What will you do with it, and whose life will you now go and save? Let’s take care of our bodies; we each only have one!

UPDATE: I read the first article on July 28 and no one in our family has had a soda pop since reading it. AND… we are reading Paul Nison’s books and learning a lot about how to eat and break free from the candida and other bad habits.

Shalom~

I was so excited to learn all of the benefits of soup stock. Here is a great stock info and recipes: Broth is Beautiful

Here are some of what we add to it:

Carrots
Onions
Fresh garlic -lots of it
Potatoes or rice
Sea Salt
Thyme
I cook and shred chicken and add it too.
If you think the garlic is too spicy, just add some water to the bowls you think shouldn’t have so much garlic.

Some other things I add for their healing properties:

Bragg’s Organic Raw-Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil
cinnamon powder

I made up a tea for our sickies last week, posted here: Cold – Sore Throat Tea

Out of necessity for the snotty noses, sore throats and general ill feelings around here last week… I came up with a tea that my Littles would drink to feel better. One tea we drink that they love is just Honey Tea. We take some Raw Honey and put it into hot water in a small tea cup, and voila! Honey Tea! Sometimes we put cinnamon into it, which is a great all-around health remedy.

I decided lately that we needed a little more than the usual Honey Tea. Here is the recipe I came up with.

16oz. Hot water
2 TBSP Raw Honey – we prefer Tropical Traditions
1 tsp. cinnamon powder
1 TBSP Bragg’s Organic Raw-Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tsp. Lemon juice

You just mix all of these ingredients together. We put ours into a tea pot, because that always makes you feel special! The flavour is kind of like Mulled or Spiced Cider. If you want to make this up beforehand, you can always mix all the ingredients up together with just a small amount of the hot water, adding the rest of the hot water later. That will help when you might need it later and it would have cooled by then.

You can also add some freshly-squeezed orange juice into it, if you would like.

Shalom friends~
